Introduction
Labia shrinkage, or the reduction in size and elasticity of the labia, is a common symptom during menopause caused by a decrease in oestrogen levels. Oestrogen helps maintain the thickness, elasticity, and moisture of the labial and vaginal tissues. When oestrogen levels decline, these tissues can become thinner, less elastic, and more prone to dryness and irritation. The loss of collagen and changes in blood flow to the genital area also contribute to tissue shrinkage.
Additionally, age-related factors such as decreased muscle tone and general tissue atrophy can further affect the appearance and texture of the labia.
