FungShui

FungShui - Women 40+ Pack Premium Mushroom Tincture Liquid Extracts

If brain fog, disrupted sleep and low energy have crept up on you during your 40s and beyond, you've probably come across mushroom tinctures in your search for support. This pack brings together three of the most talked-about functional mushrooms, Lion's Mane, Reishi and Cordyceps, each supplied as a separate liquid extract so you can use them at the times of day that suit you. It's a food supplement rather than a treatment, so it's worth understanding what each mushroom is actually backed by before deciding whether it fits into your routine.

  • A three-in-one tincture set (Lion's Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps) designed to be taken across the day, with Reishi typically saved for the evening
  • Made from 100% mushroom fruiting body rather than mycelium or grain filler, extracted at a 1:4 ratio
  • Lion's Mane is the ingredient in this pack with the most direct, if limited, research in women going through menopause

What is it

The FungShui Women 40+ Pack is a set of three separate liquid mushroom tinctures: Lion's Mane, Reishi and Cordyceps, sold together as a 50ml-each trio. Each bottle is a single-mushroom extract rather than a blended formula, so you take measured amounts from each bottle individually rather than one combined dose.

Mushroom tinctures are made by extracting compounds from the fruiting body using a combination of alcohol and water (and, according to the manufacturer, an additional ultrasonic step), which is intended to make the beta-glucans, triterpenes and other bioactive compounds easier for the body to access than eating the dried mushroom whole. FungShui states it uses fruiting body only, with no mycelium grown on grain, which is a meaningful distinction in this category as mycelium-on-grain products can be diluted with starch.

This pack sits within the "functional mushroom" or "medicinal mushroom" supplement category. It is not a herbal medicine licensed by the MHRA and is not designed to treat, diagnose or cure any medical condition, a point the manufacturer states clearly on its own site. It's aimed at women aged 40 and over who are looking for general wellbeing support around energy, mental clarity, stress and sleep, rather than at women seeking a specific treatment for menopause symptoms such as hot flushes, which none of these three mushrooms are shown to directly address.

It may be less suitable for anyone looking for a single, simple daily supplement, since three separate tinctures with different suggested timings is a bigger commitment than one capsule.

How to use

  • Lion's Mane and Cordyceps: take 2ml daily, ideally earlier in the day. The manufacturer suggests using these during the day.
  • Reishi: take 2ml daily, ideally in the evening, as it's more commonly associated with relaxation and wind-down.
  • Mixing: stir each dose into a drink of your choice. If using a hot drink, allow it to cool to drinking temperature first, as the manufacturer advises that high heat may destabilise the bioactive compounds.
  • Duration: the manufacturer recommends consistent use for at least three months to assess whether it's working for you, while noting that some people notice effects sooner.
  • Storage: The product page gives no specific storage instructions. If you have the packaging or an information leaflet, check there, or contact the manufacturer directly for guidance on storage and shelf life.

What to expect

Most reviews and manufacturer-reported survey data suggest the product is easy to take, with the taste largely masked when mixed into a hot or cold drink. Beyond that, keep expectations realistic.

The manufacturer suggests some people notice effects within days, while others may need several months, and recommends at least three months of consistent use before judging whether it's working for you. This broadly aligns with independent research: the one direct trial of Lion's Mane in menopausal women ran for four weeks, and cognitive trials in other populations have generally run for eight to sixteen weeks or longer. There is currently limited independent evidence on how quickly, or how reliably, effects on energy, mood or sleep may appear from this specific combination and dose.

Results are likely to vary between individuals, and it's worth being cautious of any supplement (this one included) that promises sharper focus, better sleep, and hormonal balance based on testimonials alone. None of the three mushrooms in this pack is an established treatment for core menopause symptoms such as hot flushes or night sweats, and this product shouldn't be expected to replace HRT or other prescribed treatment where that's clinically appropriate.

Ingredients & safety

ach 50ml bottle in this pack is a single-ingredient tincture, made from either Lion's Mane and Reishi fruiting body, or Cordyceps sinensis, extracted at a stated 1:4 ratio (125,000mg of mushroom fruiting body per bottle). The tinctures also contain acerola cherry extract (a source of vitamin C) and guava leaf extract (a source of zinc); the Cordyceps bottle additionally contains vitamin B6 and chromium. The manufacturer states there are no added fillers, starches, flavourings or preservatives, and that the products are vegan, non-GMO and gluten-free.

Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) Lion's Mane is best known for compounds (hericenones and erinacines) that have been studied for their potential to support nerve growth factor production and cognitive function. This is the one ingredient in the pack with a direct, published trial in menopausal women: a small four-week study (n=30) using Lion's Mane in cookie form found some improvement on specific symptom-index items such as irritability, anxiety and palpitations, though broader depression and sleep scores didn't differ significantly from placebo. Separately, small trials in older adults with mild cognitive impairment have shown some benefit on cognitive scoring at doses in the region of 750mg to several grams a day over several months. Some more recent trials in healthy young adults have shown mixed or null results on cognition. Overall, the evidence is genuinely promising but still early-stage, based on small studies, and none has tested a tincture at the specific dose used in this product.

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) Reishi has a long history of traditional use and is often positioned as a calming, adaptogenic mushroom. Independent evidence in humans for sleep or menopause-specific benefits is limited, and much of what's known about Reishi comes from laboratory and animal research rather than robust human trials. Reishi is also the ingredient in this pack that carries the most safety considerations. It may increase bleeding risk when combined with anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication (such as warfarin, clopidogrel or regular high-dose aspirin), and rare cases of liver toxicity have been reported with prolonged, high-dose use, particularly with powdered Reishi products. It has also been reported to interact with immunosuppressant and blood pressure medication. If you take any of these, or have an existing liver condition, talk to a pharmacist or GP before starting.

Cordyceps (Cordyceps sinensis) Cordyceps is traditionally associated with energy and stamina. Human evidence is mixed and comes mainly from small trials: some support for reduced fatigue and improved exercise capacity, and some evidence of immune-modulating effects, including changes to natural killer cell activity in a small trial that included women. Cordyceps has known immunomodulatory activity, so use caution if you have an autoimmune condition or take immunosuppressant medication; some sources also note it may affect blood glucose, which matters if you take diabetes medication. Like Reishi, it may also increase bleeding risk in combination with anticoagulants.

General safety notes across all three mushrooms: Functional mushroom supplements sit outside the same regulatory testing that applies to licensed medicines, so quality and consistency can vary between brands. Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, has a diagnosed mushroom or mould allergy, or has an autoimmune condition is generally advised to avoid or seek medical advice before using medicinal mushroom supplements, though the product page doesn't include specific allergen or pregnancy guidance of its own. There's no established UK clinical guidance suggesting these mushrooms are unsafe to combine with HRT, as they don't contain hormone analogues and work through different pathways, but this hasn't been formally studied either, so if you're on HRT or any regular prescription medication, it's worth checking with a healthcare professional before adding a new supplement, particularly given the interaction points noted above for Reishi and Cordyceps.

The product page states the tinctures are third-party tested for heavy metals, microbiological safety and beneficial compounds, though no certificate of analysis is published on the page itself for independent review.

Why we recommend it

This pack has genuinely good manufacturing practices: fruiting-body-only extraction (rather than cheaper mycelium-on-grain), a stated 1:4 extraction ratio, UK-grown or foraged mushrooms, and no fillers or preservatives. Splitting the three mushrooms into separate bottles, rather than one blended formula, also means you can see exactly how much of each mushroom you're taking, which is more transparent than many combined "menopause mushroom blend" products on the market.

We'd encourage a more measured view of the evidence and the marketing language. Several claims on the product page, including "science backed," "300+ scientific papers" and a specific "7 times more bioavailable" figure attributed to a University of Queensland study, are manufacturer claims that we haven't been able to independently verify in the form stated; the actual UQ research we found relates to an isolated compound from Lion's Mane and nerve growth in laboratory studies, not a head-to-head bioavailability comparison of this product's tincture format. Of the three mushrooms, Lion's Mane has the most directly relevant published research in menopausal women, though that trial was small and short. Reishi and Cordyceps have a longer history of traditional use and some encouraging early human research, but the evidence for menopause-specific benefit is thinner, and both carry real interaction considerations worth knowing about.

We think this is a reasonably well-made product within a category where evidence is still developing, and it may suit you if you're comfortable trying a supplement based on plausible mechanisms and early-stage research rather than firm clinical proof. It's not a substitute for HRT or medical treatment of menopause symptoms, and we'd encourage anyone on regular medication to check for interactions first.

Frequently asked questions

Is this suitable for someone in perimenopause, not just menopause? The product is marketed at women 40 and over generally, covering perimenopause through to post-menopause, rather than being specific to one stage. The one relevant clinical trial for Lion's Mane was conducted in women described as menopausal, so there's no dedicated research in perimenopausal women specifically.

Can I take this alongside HRT? There's no established UK clinical guidance against combining functional mushrooms with HRT, since none of these three ingredients contain hormone analogues. However, this combination hasn't been studied, and Reishi and Cordyceps both have other interaction considerations (see below), so it's worth checking with your GP, pharmacist, or menopause specialist before starting.

Could this interact with any medications? Yes. Reishi may increase bleeding risk if you take anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication, and has also been linked to interactions with immunosuppressant and blood pressure medication. Cordyceps carries similar bleeding-risk considerations and may affect blood glucose control. If you take regular prescribed medication, it's sensible to check with a pharmacist or GP before starting this pack.

What ingredients does it actually contain? Three tinctures: Lion's Mane and Reishi fruiting body extracts, and a Cordyceps sinensis extract, each also containing small amounts of acerola cherry (vitamin C) and guava leaf (zinc) extract, with the Cordyceps bottle also containing vitamin B6 and chromium. There are no stated fillers, flavourings or preservatives.

How soon might I notice a difference? The manufacturer suggests some people notice changes within days, though it advises at least three months of consistent use to properly assess the effects. Published research on these mushrooms generally used study periods of four to sixteen weeks, so it's reasonable to expect that any noticeable change, if it happens, is more likely to build gradually than appear overnight.

Is this safe if I have a mushroom or mould allergy? The product page doesn't provide specific allergen guidance. As a general precaution, anyone with a known mushroom or mould allergy should avoid medicinal mushroom supplements, or only use them under medical supervision.

How does this compare with taking a single mushroom on its own? Buying the three mushrooms separately would let you introduce them one at a time and identify what's actually helping (or not agreeing with you). This pack's advantage is convenience and a slight cost saving over buying three full-size tinctures individually, but if you're new to functional mushrooms, introducing one at a time may help you notice individual effects, and any side effects, more clearly.

Does the "3rd party tested" claim mean this has passed independent safety checks? The manufacturer states the tinctures undergo testing for heavy metals, microbiological safety and compound content via a laboratory. However, no certificate of analysis is published on the product page for independent verification, so this claim currently rests on the manufacturer's own statement.
